If your goal is “nothing but net,” those skills require practice, attention to form, and the perfection of mechanics. Try this series of drills you can do on your own and on any court designed to help you dial in your shooting abilities.
Warm-Up
Length: 5 minutes
Jump rope at a comfortable pace for the full length of the warm-up.
Form Shooting
Length: 10 minutes
Start positioned one foot from the front of the rim, from spots in the center and on the left and right sides of the court. Focus on your form and mechanics with each shot, with a goal of making 10 baskets from each of the three positions.
10-Footers
Length: 10 minutes
Move all three spots from the last exercise out so you’re 10 feet from the basket. Aim to make 15 baskets from each spot.
Elbow to Elbow
Length: 10 minutes
Shoot from elbow to elbow, or from each of the two corners of the free-throw line. Aim to make 15 baskets from each side.
Elbow to Wing
Length: 10 minutes
On the left side of the basket, shoot from the elbow and then from the wing. Repeat on the right side of the basket. Aim to make five shots from each spot and 10 on each side.
Long Range
Length: 10 minutes
Pick three different spots on the court to shoot from, selecting the appropriate length from the basket for your ability. Set a timer and shoot from those three places for a total of 10 minutes.
Free-Throws
Length: 10 minutes
Position yourself at the free-throw line and practice your shot, aiming to make 20 free-throws.
