The state of Texas will add its 33rd athletic country club in 2024: Life Time Westlake. “I’m excited for this new club to open and for the opportunity to serve our future members,” says John Haupert, senior lead general at Life Time Westlake. “My priority is hospitality. Expect to hear us say, ‘my pleasure’ and ‘see you tomorrow’ when speaking to members — friendly, welcoming interactions are non-negotiables.”

Life Time leaders and team members are always seeking the next opportunity to create a culture engrained in the community and empower members to live happier and healthier lives, according to Haupert. “We want to create happy spaces and immaculate experiences for our members, whether they choose to spend their time on the outdoor pool deck, on the pickleball courts, with a Dynamic Personal Trainer, or elsewhere in the club.”

Let’s explore the entire 112,000-square-foot Life Time Westlake space:

Swim in the indoor leisure or lap pool, or head outside to the pool deck to enjoy the outdoor leisure pool and whirlpool. When hunger strikes, order poolside and enjoy a meal from the outdoor bistro without leaving the sunshine.

Ready for a game of pickleball? You’ll find three indoor and four outdoor pickleball courts at Life Time Westlake. The latter features a lounge area right off the pool deck, making it a prime spot to watch friends and family play pickleball while soaking in the time outdoors.

“Pickleball is blowing up in Texas,” comments Haupert. “It’s so popular for people of all ages to play.”

For group fitness classes, members have a variety of options to choose from, including cycling, yoga, and other formats exclusive to Life Time that are centered around building strength or endurance. There are six studios: one each for Pilates and cycle, and two each for yoga and other class formats.

The expansive workout floor houses free weights, cardiovascular- and resistance-training machines, and designated stretching areas; there are also dedicated spaces for GTX, Alpha, and Ultra Fit signature group training classes.

Dynamic Personal Trainers are available to guide and support members toward their fitness goals, while Dynamic Stretch Specialists can provide assisted-stretch sessions to aid in members’ recovery efforts.

There is also an LT Recovery zone which offers expert direction, care, and support for members’ recovery needs, along with access to high-tech and effective recovery equipment. Options include hydromassage chairs, Normatec air compression sleeves, Hyperice equipment, metabolic testing, recovery treatments, and nutrition coaching. Chiropractic services are available in the LifeClinic.

The full-service LifeSpa offers treatments for your body, hair, nails, and skin. Continue your relaxation in the executive locker rooms (also known as the dressing rooms) with time spent in the whirlpool, sauna, or steam room. There is also a cold plunge for those who want to experience the benefits of cold therapy.

Find nourishment in a meal from the LifeCafe, where there is a chef-curated menu of items featuring local produce and other ingredients from local vendors to provide members with fresh food and an elevated experience.

The LifeCafe will also have a chef-style kitchen so members can watch their food being cooked. “It’s an open concept space where our chefs will prepare meals right in front of the members,” says Haupert.

Life Time Westlake has a Kids Academy featuring a tumbling area, a movement studio, an art and language studio, a learning lab, and a kids’ gym. “The unique feature about this club is that the kid’s space will have its own dedicated kid’s gym, all within the confines of the kid’s area,” says Haupert. “This is nice because we can host Summer Camp in the gym while Kids Academy is happening simultaneously in their designated area.”

Kids ages three months to 11 years can learn, play, and grow with the engaging and enriching age-specific programming and classes. Parents can use up to 2.5 hours of child care per day, included with a Junior Membership.

How did you get started with Life Time?

I’ve worked for Life Time for just under three years. I started as a personal trainer at Life Time in Burlington, Massachusetts, and then had the opportunity to work as a personal training leader at one of our new clubs, Life Time Medford, also in Massachusetts.

What brought you to Life Time Westlake?

From the moment I heard about Life Time Westlake, I knew there was something special about it. I’ve spent most of my life in the Northeast, but having the opportunity to move my family down to Texas to be part of another Life Time grand opening and continue to learn from some of the best leaders at Life Time, is something I’ll always cherish.

Life Time Westlake will be an incredible place for members. Besides having some of the best, most sought-after Dynamic Personal Trainers in the industry, Westlake is a hub for all things performance and recovery. The experience will be magical.

What’s your connection to Life Time’s healthy way of life mission?

A healthy way of life means exactly that: it’s making health an overall lifestyle. Anything I can do to incorporate healthy living into my day-to-day activities will make all the difference in the long run.

I practice what I preach and love to share that same mindset and lifestyle with all of my clients at Life Time. Instead of fitting exercise into the “spare time” in your day, it’s about creating time for it and building your lifestyle around health and exercise — and then seeing the benefits from it.

My favorite way to practice a healthy life as a toddler dad with a second on the way is to stay active with the whole family. I am obsessed with functional fitness — anything that poses a physical or mental challenge, I’m in! I enjoy obstacle races, performance training, and spending time outdoors with my family.

How did you get started with Life Time?

I started working as a part-time group fitness instructor at Life Time in Troy, Michigan before moving to Minnesota. I continued working part-time at Life Time Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota, while working another full-time corporate job for two years, then became a full-time studio lead in 2018. I’m excited to make the move to Texas for the new club opening at Life Time Westlake!

What brought you to Life Time Westlake?

When visiting the Dallas Fort Worth area, I immediately fell in love with the energy of the Texas market and was blown away at how welcoming the people are there. I am excited for this new opportunity, and to be a part of a grand opening and to build a team from the ground up.

At Life Time, I not only get to create welcoming spaces and classes for everybody, but I walk the walk too. I move in some sort of way every single day. That could be a high-intensity Alpha conditioning class, a fun AMP class to move to the rhythm, or simply taking a walk — movement is built into my every day.

What’s your connection to Life Time’s healthy way of life mission?

Movement is my medicine! Living a healthy way of life means something different to everyone — and I always tell my classes, “If you showed up and moved today, that is a win for you.”

Whether it’s movement, nutrition, or mental or physical exercise, if you choose to do something intentional to be better and challenge yourself, that is progress.

I recently fell in love with competing in HYROX endurance-based races. I love being inspired by athletes of all shapes, sizes, and ages. Last year I competed in the world championships in the United Kingdom and that was an unforgettable experience.

How did you get started with Life Time?

In 2018, I had the pleasure of moving to Texas to start my career with Life Time during the grand opening of Life Time Forth Worth, working in member services. I also had the pleasure of working at Life Time Plano, and shortly after 2021, I was given the opportunity to move back to Forth Worth as the kids leader.

What brought you to Life Time Westlake?

I am excited to help more members find what makes them happy, and to encourage them to live their happiest and healthiest lives at Life Time Westlake. I’m also excited for new challenges within my Life Time career.

Life Time Westlake will be an amazing experience for members because of the leadership and people that will be inside this athletic country club. I have no doubt that all team members will prioritize going above and beyond to serve our members.

What’s your connection to Life Time’s healthy way of life mission?

I believe living a healthy way of live is the foundation of true happiness. It’s not only something that improves our physical health, but also our mental health.

While at work, you can see me incorporating the mission with our youngest members by consistently making sure they are entertained and educated in each of our Kids Academy spaces. This helps them start their healthy way of life journey from a young age.
