The city that never sleeps is about to get an extra dose of endorphins: Life Time is preparing to open two new athletic country clubs in the New York City area by the end of next year. One destination in 2025 — Brooklyn Tower — and one yet this year, Atlantic Avenue.
Life Time’s portfolio in the area grew by four destinations in the last couple of years — One Wall Street, Dumbo, Midtown, and PENN 1 — and the aim is to continue that expansion in the coming years.
“New York City is a perfect match for Life Time,” says Jean Rottman, development manager for property development at Life Time. “The high-energy and fast-moving pace that the city brings transfers to the experience inside our athletic country clubs — yet you also can find respite from it all in our relaxation spaces. The clubs also complement one another well: You can play pickleball at one location, swim laps at another, and enjoy a social event on a rooftop at yet another.”
Rottman and Ryan Brister, vice president of northeast club operations at Life Time, share more about the new Life Time Athletic Country Clubs coming to New York and what makes each of them unique.
Life Time Atlantic Avenue
Arriving spring 2024 in Brooklyn, N.Y.
“Life Time Atlantic Avenue is right around the corner from Barclay’s Center, creating visibility for Life Time from those attending the countless events held at that venue,” says Rottman. “I think people will see our presence from the street and feel encouraged to walk into our spaces — which I liken to the feeling of entering an elegant retreat — and pursue their healthy-way-of-life goals. Immediately upon opening the doors, members will see an iconic grand staircase and reception desk, which is just adjacent to the LifeCafe. This design was intentional to immediately prompt interaction. Then, of course, members can travel that floor and up the staircase to reach the workout floor, studio rooms, and all other amenities.”
Life Time Brooklyn Tower
Arriving 2025 in Brooklyn, N.Y.
“Life Time Brooklyn Tower is located in what’s essentially the retail hub of Brooklyn,” says Brister. “There are five or six different subway lines that connect within a one- to two-minute walk of this Life Time Athletic Country Club. Many major retailers want to be a part of this community, and Life Time will be right in the center of it.
“This will be the first Life Time in New York City to feature a full-service Life Time Work,” he continues. “Our future members are already excited about this offering: We’ve received so many inquiries about bringing Life Time Work to New York City. This club will also have largest workout floor that this area has ever seen.”
Rottman notes that the location itself is special. “The Brooklyn Tower building that Life Time is residing in is the tallest tower in Brooklyn. This club is going to provide a luxurious, cohesive extension to the historic and iconic look and feel of the residential tower. It will certainly be one of the most dramatic aesthetics in our portfolio. There is truly nothing else like this in Brooklyn.”
