The city that never sleeps is about to get an extra dose of endorphins: Life Time is preparing to open four new athletic country clubs in the New York City area in the next year. These include three destinations — One Wall Street, Dumbo, and Midtown — in 2022 and Park Avenue South in 2023.
These openings will double Life Time’s presence in the area, and the intent is for the growth to continue beyond that. “I think it’s safe to say that New York City is coming back to life after the pandemic, with communities being rebuilt, corporate headquarter employees returning to the office, and residents and commuters spending more time in the city they love,” says Ryan Brister, vice president of northeast club operations at Life Time. “They’ll soon have new experiential offerings to support their health, fitness, and well-being available to them in the greater Manhattan and Brooklyn areas.”
Brister shared more about the new Life Time athletic country clubs coming to New York and what makes each of them unique.
Life Time One Wall Street
Arriving fall 2022 in New York City
“One Wall Street will be the first Life Time to open this year in the New York City area,” says Brister. “This space is going to be the epitome of a healthy way of life destination. One Wall Street will have a much larger footprint than any other health club in New York City, spanning almost 80,000 square feet across four levels. We’re also excited that this space will host our very first Kids Academy in New York City.”
He continues, “One Wall Street is a historic building that has been repurposed from what it was, a corporate building, to now a residential tower with a Life Time built inside. The area where Life Time is housed used to be an old bank, and we’re going to have big vault doors to represent where the bank vault used to be.”
Life Time Dumbo
Arriving fall 2022 in Brooklyn, N.Y.
“Dumbo will be our first Life Time location in Brooklyn,” explains Brister. “This is the beginning of our Life Time story there and what we’re planning will lead to an expansion in the Brooklyn area. This athletic country club is not going into an existing building, but rather the developer is building it from the ground up.”
He adds, “This space will feature an indoor lap pool, an elevated courtyard connected to the LifeCafe, multiple dedicated fitness studios, a coffee and bar lounge area, and a LifeSpa offering body services such as massages, in addition to our expansive workout floor. We’re also building an iconic basketball court similar to the one at Life Time Sky where we’ve hosted Kevin Durant and a number of other NBA players.”
Life Time Midtown
Arriving fall 2022 in New York City
“Life Time Midtown will be located just where it sounds — right in the middle of New York City’s prominent Midtown neighborhood. It’s one street away from Billionaires’ Row, and three streets and a three-minute walk from Central Park,” says Brister. “We expect to operate a Life Time Run Club utilizing Central Park. While we can’t program in Central Park, we can definitely go run in it!”
“In regard to amenities,” he adds, “this space will feature an indoor lap pool, an amazing workout floor with state-of-the-art equipment, and dedicated spaces for our studio fitness and group training classes including GTX, yoga, barre, Pilates, cycle, and more.”
Life Time Park Avenue South
Arriving 2023 in New York City
“This location will feature the very best fitness programming that the Gramercy Park community has ever experienced,” says Brister. “This neighborhood is a well-known, historic community that has ties to notable New York City figures ranging from Thomas Edison to Julia Roberts. Life Time Park Avenue South will be just a short five- to 10-minute walk from our 23rd Street location, with members having the option to be able to enjoy access to both locations so they can double their experience of favorite performers, classes, and amenities.”
