Matcha milk

  • 4 oz. barista oat milk or other nondairy milk
  • ¾ tsp. matcha powder (ceremonial grade for less bitterness)
  • ½ tbs. maple syrup

Black Sesame Syrup

  • 1 oz. water
  • 1 tsp. black sesame powder, plus more for garnish
  • ½ tbs. maple syrup
  • ⅛ tsp. sea salt, plus more for garnish
Make the matcha milk:
STEP 1
In a small saucepan, gently heat the oat milk over medium-low.
STEP 2
Pass the matcha powder through a fine strainer to remove any lumps and add it to the milk along with the maple syrup. Use a whisk or handheld frother to mix the ingredients thoroughly.
STEP 3
Continue to heat until the milk is hot but not boiling. Remove from heat.
Make the black sesame syrup:
STEP 1
Heat the water to 185 degrees F.
STEP 2
In a small bowl, mix the hot water with the black sesame powder, maple syrup, and sea salt.
Make it iced or hot:
STEP 1
To make a hot latte, pour the black sesame syrup into an 8-ounce mug. Gently layer the matcha milk over the syrup. Garnish with a sprinkle of black sesame powder and more sea salt as desired.
STEP 2
To make an iced latte, allow the matcha milk to cool slightly. Pour the black sesame syrup into an 8-ounce glass, then fill the glass with ice and pour the cooled matcha milk over the syrup.
