Mulled Pomegranate Cider
Warm up with this comforting pomegranate shrub-based mocktail that combines winter spices like cardamom, cinnamon, and clove.

This seasonal mocktail features a pomegranate shrub (also known as a drinking vinegar) that adds a bright, tangy depth of flavor. The shrub requires a four-day fermentation period, so be sure to plan ahead.
Ingredients
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 5 whole cloves
- 2 whole green cardamom pods
- 2 star-anise pods
- 1 oz. pomegranate shrub (prepared four days in advance )
- 1 qt. spiced apple cider
- 1 tangerine, sliced
- 1 clementine, sliced
- 1 lemon, sliced
- 1 apple, sliced
Directions
STEP 1
Make the pomegranate shrub at least four days in advance, as it requires time to ferment.
STEP 2
To prepare the mocktail: In a large saucepan, gently toast the spices over medium-low heat until fragrant, about three to five minutes.
STEP 3
Pour the pomegranate shrub and apple cider into the saucepan.
STEP 4
Add the sliced fruit and gently simmer over medium-low for 15 minutes. Ladle into cups.
STEP 5
Optional spirit: Apple or pear brandy
