Progress Together: 5 Benefits of a Workout Partner

The perks of finding a fitness buddy and how to bring yours to Life Time.

Staying consistent with your workout routine can be tough — especially when your motivation dips or a busy schedule gets in your way. If you’re feeling these familiar struggles, a supportive workout buddy can make all the difference. Whether you’re inspired by friendly competition, shared goals, or just need someone to laugh with, teaming up can elevate your workouts and keep you coming back for more.

Let’s explore some of the reasons why exercising with others can lead to consistency, better results, and more fun.

1. Accountability

A reliable workout partner increases your chances of sticking with your regular workouts or program of choice. When one person feels unmotivated, the other can step in with encouragement. When you make it to your workout, you’re showing up for yourself as well as your partner.

2. Social Connection

As you get older and more set in your daily routine, it can be harder to meet new people. But remaining open to making new connections can turn working out into something appealing rather than an obligation.

3. Adventure

You’re more likely to try something new if you have support. Workout partners can inspire each other to break from routine with the goal of making exercise fun, interesting, and challenging.

4. Healthy Competition

If you’re motivated by a little friendly competition, a buddy in the weight room, for instance, can help you push further by challenging you to do one more set, one more rep, or add a little weight to your next lift. Before you know it, you’re getting stronger.

5. Encouragement

Whether or not you and your workout partner share similar goals, celebrating your wins with others can make those moments even more meaningful and enjoyable.

Bring Your Workout Partner to Life Time

Have someone that you’d like to be your fitness buddy but they’re not yet a Life Time member? One of the many advantages of a Life Time membership is the ability to experience your favorite amenities and offerings with friends and family through guest passes.

As a Life Time member, you can invite a friend or family member through the Life Time app via a user-friendly link found in the “My Profile” section of the app. When the guest receives the invite, they can easily download the Life Time app, create an account, and accept their invite. When visiting the club, your guest will check in with a guest pass QR code found in the app (much like your membership card in the app today). As a bonus, they now have access to features of the Life Time app.

Guests will need to show a valid photo ID when entering the club — otherwise no paperwork is required. They’ll provide all the information that’s needed ahead of time through the app, so checking in is as easy as it is for a member. Keep in mind that the same guest can only visit the club once every 60 days (Learn more: “Grab a Guest: It’s Time to Go to the Club!”).
