Which SHRED Class Is Right for Me?

A breakdown of Life Time’s three cardio-and-strength SHRED classes and what you can expect in each class.

For those looking to maximize their workout efficiency, SHRED classes at Life Time may be an appealing solution. These group fitness classes combine the cardiovascular benefits of high-intensity cardio with the muscle-building power of resistance training, in one effective 45-minute session.

The magic of combining cardio and strength is that you get more bang for your workout buck. You’re building endurance during cardio intervals while simultaneously building lean muscle and strengthening your bones.

“SHRED classes are designed based on the belief that strength and conditioning are better together,” says Colette Raymond, class collection brand specialist at Life Time. “SHRED combines purposeful strength training, athletic cardio, and functional movement to help participants build a strong fitness foundation while improving endurance, performance, and overall fitness.

“Every workout is designed to be efficient, scalable, and empowering, meeting people where they are while helping them progress toward their goals. The common thread across all SHRED formats is full-body training, intentional movement, and the opportunity to unleash your inner athlete.”

Life Time class schedules feature three different SHRED classes, and each one has a slightly different purpose.

“SHRED builds the foundation, SHRED CON takes that foundation and develops performance through strength, conditioning, and anaerobic threshold training,” Raymond explains. “SHRED CIRCUIT brings that training to life through a high-energy station-based experience guided by heart rate zones. No matter which class you choose, you’ll get a full-body workout that blends strength and conditioning to help you build endurance, confidence, and athletic performance.”

To make it easier to select the right class for you, we’re breaking down each SHRED format so you can find the one that matches your goals and preferences.

SHRED

Mix strength and heart-pumping cardio moves for a results-driven full-body workout.

What to expect: SHRED is the foundation of the brand. This circuit-style workout is comprised of one-minute exercise sets that target your upper body, lower body, and core. You’ll rev up your heart rate with one-minute athletic cardio drills after completing the muscle-burning strength sets. SHRED offers scalability to meet your needs, meaning this class is for everyone, from beginners to experienced athletes.

Equipment: Barbell, dumbbells, kettlebells, resistance bands, bench, mat

Length: 45 minutes

SHRED CON

Build power, strength, and improve your conditioning.

What to expect: SHRED CON takes the SHRED philosophy and elevates it with heart-rate-driven interval training. In addition to strength and conditioning, participants experience anaerobic threshold challenges, a variety of interval formats, and a challenging finisher that encourages them to push their limits. This class is designed to improve performance, workout capacity, and metabolic conditioning. SHRED CON is for the athlete who enjoys training with purpose and pushing their limits.

Equipment: Barbell, dumbbells, kettlebells, resistance bands, gliding discs, jump rope, bench, mat

Length: 45 minutes

SHRED CIRCUIT

Improve strength and endurance through station-style circuit training with variety and rotation to keep you engaged.

What to expect: SHRED CIRCUIT delivers the same high-performance training experience as SHRED CON but in a station-based environment. Participants rotate through strength, conditioning, and core stations that strategically challenge different energy systems while providing opportunities for active recovery. It creates a dynamic, team-oriented atmosphere that combines athletic performance training with the excitement of moving through multiple stations.

Equipment: Barbell, dumbbells, kettlebells, resistance bands, gliding discs, jump rope, bench, mat

Length: 45 minutes
