When you’re starting a healthy-living journey, having a plan that offers structure and follows a timeline is important. But there’s a difference between a set plan and one that can ebb and flow based on the progress you make or obstacles you encounter along the way. One can leave you frustrated or stalled out if something doesn’t go as planned; the other allows for continued success based on your body and experiences.
At Life Time, training and nutrition guidance go beyond a basic plan, delivering a more adaptive, individualized experience within one connected ecosystem: Dynamic Personal Training, Dynamic Nutrition Coaching, and Dynamic Stretch.
“You’ll see the word ‘dynamic’ a lot at Life Time,” says Anika Christ, RD, CPT, senior director of nutrition and weight loss at Life Time. “It reflects a shift away from static programming and toward a more interactive approach. Instead of simply following a set plan, your coach learns, adjusts, and evolves with you — it’s always personalized. The focus isn’t just to get you from point A to point B, but to build a resilient body that can adapt and sustain a healthy lifestyle over time.”
Whether it’s on the workout floor with a trainer, in a nutrition session with a coach, or on a stretch table with a stretch specialist, a dynamic experience is built around one core idea: Your plan progresses with you.
“The human body is dynamic: It changes as your needs, your abilities, and your life circumstances change,” adds Christ. “Dynamic programming is designed to meet that reality, with coaching that responds in real time, rather than leveraging the same plan for everyone.”
Having an expert who can fine-tune your approach on the spot — based on how your body moves, feels, and performs — can help remove the guesswork and support long-term consistency. Here, we asked a few Life Time experts, including Christ, to break down how the Life Time dynamic philosophy comes to life across each of the three program offerings.
Dynamic Personal Training
In a Dynamic Personal Training session, the work begins before you even pick up a weight, according to Sean Toy, Dynamic Personal Trainer, vice president of customer engagement, and area director for Life Time.
“Starting with a consultation is one of the most important things we do before we get into an actual training session,” Toy says. “As Dynamic Personal Trainers, we work to get to know each member and truly understand why they train, how hard they want to be pushed in workouts, and when they need to pull back.”
The “human component” is integral to the Dynamic Personal Training experience at Life Time, he adds. “What’s dynamic about these sessions is being able to meet people truly where they’re at — not only their physical needs but also understanding their emotional needs and their limits. This is imperative for a strong trainer-member relationship.”
Each session is highly individualized: “A trainer is going to adapt each session to how you’re feeling that day,” notes Toy. “You could have a workout program built by AI, but it doesn’t necessarily always meet your needs for a given day.”
A Dynamic Personal Trainer asks questions like, “How did you sleep last night?” “What did you eat for breakfast?” “What are your stress levels?” This information helps them craft a training session that’s appropriate for your day, not just the plan.
“Understanding a member’s energy level, stresses, sleep, recovery, injuries, limitations, and current mindset is going to help the Dynamic Personal Trainer adapt that day’s training plan to help create more sustainable progress,” says Toy. “A coach can help you understand that you’re not failing just because you’re not hitting what’s on a piece of paper; rather you’re progressing at a rate that’s best for you.”
Another important element of a Dynamic Personal Trainer’s role is being an accountability partner. “A big part of what I do as a trainer is help hold members accountable,” says Toy. “I do this by supplying education, safety, direction, and the right level of intensity. I aim to curate an experience that’s more than just a training session — I also want the member to feel excited about what we’re achieving. That, to me, is what creates the dynamic experience.”
Dynamic Nutrition Coaching
For many, starting a nutrition program can feel intimidating, especially if they anticipate receiving a rigid plan that’s difficult to maintain.
“Members coming into a Dynamic Nutrition Coaching session are often worried they’ll be given a generic meal plan that doesn’t fit their lifestyle,” says Christ. “They think, ‘Oh, you’re going to tell me to eat chicken and broccoli every day,’ or that we’ll push them into habits that aren’t realistic or enjoyable. A lot of that comes from past experiences. But at Life Time, you’re working with a coach who helps you build a lifestyle that supports your goals —one that can shift as your needs do.
“Trust me, our nutrition coaches love food that tastes good,” she adds. “Enjoyment matters. We use practical strategies to make healthy eating something you actually look forward to.”
Every Dynamic Nutrition Coaching journey begins with a discovery session. “We start with several questionnaires to understand how a member makes food choices,” says Christ. “For example, if someone prefers eating out frequently, I’m not going to recommend a complex weekly meal prep routine.”
Sessions can also go deeper, exploring the underlying factors that influence your nutrition. “I like to ‘peek under the hood,’” says Christ. This may include identifying food sensitivities, examining emotional patterns around eating, or collaborating with your doctor or MIORA specialists to review bloodwork, metabolism, gut health, and thyroid function.
“Everyone is different,” she adds. “It’s not just what you eat, but it’s how your body processes and uses those nutrients.”
From there, a Dynamic Nutrition Coach builds a personalized approach that can evolve. “Reassessing is an integral part of the process,” Christ says. “Many people think if they can’t follow the plan perfectly, they’ve failed — but that’s the failure of the plan, not you.”
Working together, you and your coach revisit and adjust your approach regularly — typically every three months, but sometimes more often based on your needs. “The goal is to build trust,” Christ says. “We’re here to help you develop habits that actually work for your life. Over time, we continue refining your approach so you can sustain it independently — that’s the ultimate goal.”
Dynamic Stretch
A Dynamic Stretch experience is more than just stretching, according to Mathew Rosas, Dynamic Stretch Specialist and Dynamic Personal Trainer at Life Time in Red Bank, N.J.
“It’s a recovery service,” he explains. “The goal of Dynamic Stretch is to help you improve your range of motion and help you continue to do the things you love by supporting muscle health and reducing risk of injury. It’s designed to help you recover after workouts so you’re ready for what’s next.”
Before the hands-on work begins, each session starts with a discovery process, Rosas says. “We want to get to know the member in front of us by asking all the right questions. We want to understand their priorities and their history of any injuries.”
During a typical session, a Dynamic Stretch Specialist guides you through a series of assisted, full-body stretches while you’re lying or seated on a training table. They may begin with a movement assessment to evaluate how you move and identify any areas of tightness or restriction. From there, your specialist moves your body through controlled ranges of motion, often into positions you may not be able to reach on your own.
“This is where we can be more targeted,” says Rosas. “Each session isn’t just about stretching — we’re also helping relieve muscle tension through intentional, guided movement. After that initial session, we can build a program based on what we learned from the conversation and assessment.”
Your Dynamic Stretch Specialist can help you determine the frequency of your sessions based on your needs and goals. After a few sessions, you’ll likely notice more ease throughout your day-to-day movements, according to Rosas. “The goal is to start feeling like your everyday movements are coming a little easier and also to feel less sore after your workouts.”
Over time, your Dynamic Stretch program progresses with you. “As your mobility and strength improve, your goals will naturally shift,” says Rosas. “Our responsibility is to evolve with you — that’s what makes it dynamic.”
Putting It All Together
These three “dynamic” programs don’t operate in isolation. When used together, they work in sync to support your goals from multiple angles.
“One of the best aspects of Life Time is that everything is housed in one place,” says Toy. “Our coaches and specialists are working symbiotically to ensure your overall approach is driving optimal results across each service.”
For example, your Dynamic Stretch Specialist can reference your workouts with a Dynamic Personal Trainer to understand the muscle groups to prioritize and how to best prepare your body for what’s next. Similarly, your Dynamic Nutrition Coach can refine your nutrition strategy based on the goals you’re working toward in your training sessions.
“Having the ability to use multiple dynamic offerings in one ecosystem can create a much bigger impact and help you achieve results more efficiently,” says Rosas.
At the core of Life Time’s dynamic philosophy is a focus on building sustainable habits that extend beyond the club. “Our offerings are designed to help you build confidence in a healthy lifestyle you genuinely enjoy so you can continue making strong choices, even outside the four walls of Life Time,” says Christ.
