From its inception, Life Time Work has carved out a niche within the coworking industry: the intersection of wellness and the workplace. It’s the first and only coworking membership that combines access to a premium work experience with a world-class health club.

Now, with eight workspaces available across the United States and two additional locations planned to open in 2022, there’s no slowing down for Life Time Work — or the coworking industry. The launch of Life Time Work’s 54,000-square-foot flagship coworking space in downtown Minneapolis arrived in September, just as coworking trends hit their steepest rise in popularity yet.

Technology and innovation have made possible more adjustable work schedules and remote-work options than ever before. Prior to the pandemic onset, only 7 percent of employees reported having a flexible work schedule or being allowed to telework, according to a 2019 survey conducted by the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics and reported on by the Pew Research Center. Now, that number is as high as 25 percent.

And hybrid work environments are even more common now. In a 2020 “State of Remote Work” survey by Global Workplace Analytics and Owl Labs, a video-conferencing hardware company, 80 percent of respondents reported expecting to work remotely as many as three days per week.

An Array of Options

At each of its locations, Life Time Work offers three membership options to meet this growing need. Members with a team can choose to rent a secure, lockable office through an Office Resident membership, while those who are working independently might opt for an Open Resident membership with a dedicated desk. More dynamic professionals may choose a Lounge Membership, which provides access to a variety of workspaces in an open-plan environment.

The downtown Minneapolis location is Life Time Work’s third in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area and its most premium and impressive yet. The coworking space includes three interconnected floors — each with unique architectural features designed to promote movement and contribute to its members’ overall well-being.

“Our downtown destination complements our suburban locations in Edina and St. Louis Park while greatly expanding the scale and ambition of what it means to deliver a premium experience at work,” says James O’Reilly, president of Life Time Work. “Everything within the environment is designed to help you be more productive, engaged, and fulfilled at work while also promoting improved wellness.”

Double-height, floor-to-ceiling windows welcome bright, natural light into the workspaces, and two outdoor patios provide ample opportunity to reengage the senses with fresh air, sunlight, and expansive views of the downtown area. Both natural light and time spent outdoors have been shown to benefit the body’s circadian rhythm, boost energy, improve mood, and reduce eye strain.

Wellness-promoting details are inherent within every aspect of Life Time Work’s thoughtful design. It’s in the luxury fixtures, furnishings, and amenities, including sit-to-stand Herman Miller desks and other ergonomic furniture. It’s in the abundance of air-purifying plant life and greenery, healthy snacks and fresh coffee available in its two kitchens, plush décor in calming earth tones, art and photography featuring scenic landscapes, and more.

“The space here is spectacular,” says Abhishek Patel, a member of the Life Time Work Downtown Minneapolis location and president of Real Property Management Fidelis. “Life Time Work was exactly what I was hoping to find when I began looking for a coworking space for my team. It will certainly impress clients and win new business, since it shows we are committed to high quality — not just in the services we provide, but also in those we receive.”

Get Moving

Beyond its health-focused design, the Life Time Work membership includes access to the Life Time Target Center health club located about a 10-minute walk through downtown’s interconnected system of indoor skyways. At the health club, members can take a studio class, such as yoga or cycle, use the cutting-edge fitness equipment, enjoy a healthy lunch in the LifeCafe®, or relax in the resort-style amenities, including whirlpools, saunas, and eucalyptus steam rooms.

“Members of Life Time Work receive access to more than 150 Life Time health club destinations across North America,” says O’Reilly. “Additionally, they can work out of the two suburban Life Time Work locations in Edina and St. Louis Park and five more around the country.”

“The workspace motivates my employees to come in and spend more time at the office,” says Patel. “Life Time Work is a huge draw because it is so dynamic, collaborative, and beautiful. I cannot imagine any potential employee not wanting to work in such a nice office with the added health club membership benefit.”

Together at Work

Another tenet of Life Time Work is its focus on community. Each location offers opportunities for networking and building social connections, such as sponsored happy hours, coffee connects, guest speakers and other educational and networking events, digital forums, professional-development sessions, and member-only workouts with others at the health club.

“We have partnerships in development with some of the best sports teams, theaters, and event centers in the downtown area to provide yet another great benefit to our members,” says Robert Kraemer, manager of Life Time Work Downtown Minneapolis. “These provide exciting outlets and opportunities to connect with your Life Time Work community or to further engage with your employees and clients.”

Patel adds, “The community here was actually something I hadn’t expected to find. The Life Time Work team and other professionals working around me — they’ve all felt like my own extended team. The management team is so attentive and helpful, and they’re a huge reason why I’m already thinking of extending to an even longer lease.”
