3 Simple, Healthy Rub Recipes

Season grilled meats or veggies with these homemade blends.

Assortment of spices

Store-bought sauces like BBQ or teriyaki are often filled with added sugars or preservatives. Get big flavor without unwanted additives by using one of these rubs on your favorite meats or veggies instead. Simply mix all the ingredients together and add right before cooking.

Sweet and Smoky Rub
3 tbs. coconut sugar or Sucanat
2 tbs. sea salt
4 tsp. smoked paprika
2 tsp. chili powder
1 tsp. ground cumin
1 tsp. ground black pepper 1/2 tsp. mustard powder
1/2 tsp. dried thyme
1/2 tsp. ground chipotle chili 1/4 tsp. ground allspice

Chicken Rub
1 tsp. garlic powder
1 tsp. ground cumin
1 tsp. dried thyme
1 tsp. smoked paprika
1 tsp. sugar
Pinch of sea salt
Ground black pepper to taste

Coffee Rub
2 tbs. ground coffee
1 tbs. packed, dark brown sugar
1 tbs. smoked paprika
1 tbs. sea salt
2 tsp. ground black pepper
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1/2 tsp. ground allspice
