Jamie Martin and David Freeman are the cohosts of the Life Time Talks podcast. Martin is the vice president of content strategy at Life Time and the editor in chief of Experience Life, Life Time’s whole-life health and wellness magazine. Freeman is the senior director of signature coach excellence at Life Time.
In this episode, Martin and Freeman offer insights into their philosophies around setting and approaching their goals, including the following:
- Select a “word of the year”: This can serve as a helpful center for focusing your intentions.
- Keep it focused: Martin uses a framework shared by Life Time Talks guest Lindsay Ogden that involves identifying one year-defining adventure, six mini adventures, and four healthy habits for the year.
- Know what’s worked — and what hasn’t: Reflecting on past goals may help you identify both areas of improvement and areas of opportunity.
- Be intentional: It can be impactful to approach goals not just as a “box to check,” but as tasks you’re completing with intention.
- Have a plan: Simply setting goals won’t elicit change; you need to also plan how you’re going to execute them and have checks and balances in place so you can evaluate how you’re progressing.
- Be real: Authenticity in goal setting can help foster genuine growth.
