Summer vacation is here! Youngsters were no doubt thrilled the day that last school bell rang — while many parents might have felt a surge of stress about occupying the newfound free time in their kids’ schedules.
At Life Time, there’s always some way for your kids to be moving, learning, and interacting with others their age, including activities, classes, sports, events, camps, and more.
“Summer feels like freedom for kids — and it’s a prime time for them to stay active and have fun,” says Tori Limmel, Life Time Kids curriculum manager. “All summer long, Life Time offers camps where kids can move their bodies, play, learn new skills, and make friends. There’s also a range of kid-friendly activities on the schedules to provide opportunities for them to spend healthy time this summer.”
Here are some options — many of which are included as part of a Junior Membership — for filling your kids’ summer calendar.
Enriching Classes
- Kids Studio Classes. Young ones can move their bodies by taking kid-friendly versions of some of the same workout classes you enjoy, including Warrior Sculpt, Ringside, LifeBarre, SOL yoga, and SHRED. The formats are modified to fit their level with options for ages 5 to 8 and 9 to 13.
- Kids Academy Classes. Offered throughout the day, these classes include dance, arts and crafts, yoga, sports, tumbling, junior warriors, martial arts, and more.
- Fitness and Agility Classes. If your child is between the ages of 5 and 13, they can start taking their sports skills to the next level with these classes aimed at teaching the fundamentals of movement while increasing their athletic confidence and abilities.
- Grown-Up and Me Classes. These weekly, family-oriented fitness classes encourage building strong bodies together. They are tailored for toddler and preschool ages, allowing young ones to explore movement with the comfort of having their parent by their side.
Spontaneous Fun
- Drop-In Play. Enjoy the 2.5 hours of daily child care (infant care is 2 hours) included in your membership*. Weekly themes and activities are planned so kids can have fun and be engaged when they’re not attending a class.
- Pool Time. Come during open swim hours for pool fun, whether you choose to work on swimming skills, play water games, race down the water slide, or simply splash around.
- Open Gym. Divide the kids or family into teams for a pick-up game of basketball, line up for a ball shooting competition, or play one of these fun basketball games for two or more players.
Sports Time
- Tennis and Pickleball. Pass out the tennis racquets or pickleball paddles and let kids practice their serves, work on court awareness, or just play these lifelong sports during open court time. Junior tennis programming is available for those who want regular practice and guidance around growing their skills.
- Swimming. Whether you’re interested in having your kids learn how to swim or helping them improve their stroke and be more competitive, we have instructors and programs to suit all abilities. Begin with Intro to Splash swim lessons (ages 3 months to 2 years) to get them comfortable in the water with you before transitioning them to be on their own in swim lessons (ages 2 years and older). As your child grows, sign them up for swim clinics for specialized training (ages 5 to 12 years) or for competition by joining the swim team (based on child’s ability, typically ages 5 to 18).
- Rock Wall. Challenge your child’s body and mind by encouraging them to climb to new heights as they explore new routes on the rock wall (available at select locations). A parent must be present to supervise kids ages 5 to 11 years old.
- Ultimate Hoops. Young ballers can participate in basketball camps and training to develop their skills and engage in fun and competitive play.
Exciting Events and Camps
- Parents Night Out. Enjoy a night alone while your kids have dinner (did someone say pizza party?!) and a blast at Life Time. Each monthly Parents Night Out features a different theme with games and activities based around it. (See what the June and July themed events will be: “Time for Summer Fun: The June, July, and August Kids’ Events at Life Time.”)
- Tween Events. These monthly Tween Takeover events are the perfect way to combine fun and exercise with meeting new friends. Activities vary each month, but include options such as balloon foosball, ultimate Frisbee, board games, speed stacking, and other games.
- Summer Camps. Summer Camp at Life Time is a convenient way to keep kids engaged in healthy fun all season while they’re out of school. Each week’s theme influences the types of activities kids will be doing. The exact schedule and activities vary based on your club location and child’s preferences, but typically consist of options including swimming, rock climbing, active gym games, S.T.E.A.M., team building, community connections, and dress-up days.
