In July 2011, the Environmental Working Group (EWG) and consulting firm CleanMetrics released the “Meat Eater’s Guide to Climate Change + Health,” which includes a “cradle-to-grave” assessment of the carbon footpring of 20 popular, conventionally raised (non-organic) meat (including fish), dairy and vegetable proteins.

The guide is part of an effort that encourages Americans to skip eating meat and cheese at least one day a week, and the EWG estimates that action alone could cut carbon emissions equivalent to taking 7.6 million cars off the road.
