A friend posted this quote by Louis L’Amour on Facebook, and I found it fitting for how I’ve been feeling lately:

“There will come a time when you believe everything is finished. Yet that will be the beginning.”

It didn’t just spark something inside of me because of the recent loss I’ve been through, although I’m sure that was a driving factor in me “liking” the post.

The quote also made me think about my weight-loss journey.

There was a part of my mind that said, “All right! You did it. We’re done,” once we published my story in the September issue. And since then, I’ve plateaued in weight loss. I’ve talked to life coach Lauren about it, and we deduced that really, the new me and new body is so much happier now that it’s almost reinvented my goal. If it was 125 lbs. at one point, it became 135. And in this last week, I started thinking less and less about the number. Wasn’t that my obsession to begin with?

What if this beginning, as L’Amour refers to, is about strength and awesome health, as I was seeking from the start? What if I stop thinking of it as a plateau and instead think of it as a time to recalibrate?

Now, more than ever, I feel the need for self-care and tenderness, rest, healing foods, and warmth. Oooh, a massage! And yoga!

As for the quote: When have you felt like something was finished, only to see it was the beginning?
